5/23/09
The 2008/2009 season ended on Sunday May 10th, when Royal Polaris returned from another successful trip. As soon as the passengers disembarked, and their great catch was unloaded, we immediately went into “Maintenance.”

With the input received from our passengers last year, when we posted the “Maintenance” activity, we realized that our passengers and friends enjoyed the posted updates.

This year, there are several projects on the list:

1.Replace all metal and hull plate to 8000 gal. Water tank. (Estimated cost $85,000.00)

2.Remove propellers and two propeller shafts. Better alignment is needed for smoother performance, less vibration and better fuel economy. Work is being performed by machinists from North Star Propeller.

3.Bottom will be hydro-washed and painted.

4.Replace 22 hull Zincs and 6 shaft Zincs.

5.Replace all metal bulwarks in stern area from gate to gate. Sandblast once metal is removed, apply Maxcor primer, and weld up new aluminum. Welders are from Superior Welding (Captain Billy’s Dad.)

6.Sand, fill with Bondo, sand again, and paint two coats of gloss to:
a) Bulworks – bow to stern;
b) Back of main cabin;
c) All guard rails on outside of boat;
d) Engine room hatch;
e) Bait tank and tank tree.

7.Put down new deck and new rock with 2 coats of Epoxy and 1 coat of Polyurethane.

8.New doors for all three heads in entry way.

9.New carpeting throughout staterooms and galley.

10.New upholstery for all galley seats and curtains cleaned.

11.All showers refinished with linear Polyurethane.

12.All heads throughout the boat have been removed, acid washed, new plumbing where needed and reinstalled.

13.New stainless steel bilge lines throughout the boat and new bilge manifold.

14.There will be new bed linens and pillow cases and along with 18 new king size pillows.

15.Recover bunk pads.

16.Replace wall paper where needed.

17.Replace certain portions of Teak rail.

18.Apply Vinyl Lustre resin to inside of fresh water tank.

19.Varnishing – so the beautiful teak wood stays beautiful.

20.New air condition vents in staterooms where needed.

This is just part of the plans. There’s a lot of pride involved in each project – no matter the size. We are all dedicated to make the Royal Polaris the best!
Will keep you posted on the progress.

Good going north (050709)
Written by Royal Polaris

Hello everyone;

Weather continues to be good going north. We have 10 to 12 knots of breeze, overcast skies, and a slight chill in the air. Today was about the same as yesterday, with movies, reading, and just relaxing. Most passengers are telling stories about past trips, and talking about future trips. The crew cleaned the boat today, and most of the crew is looking for some much needed time off. With that note, wish us luck on the weather, the R/p crew.

P.S. Kathy would like to thank her family for the wonderful lobster birthday dinner, and by the way she won a brand new Accurate reel.

Hello everyone;

Today was a day of relaxation. The passengers watched movies, read a good book, or just soaked up some sun. Weather continues to be good, for traveling north. Not much more to report, just wish us luck on the weather, please. The R/p crew.

Wahoo show on the bank (050509)

Hello everyone;

Weather is excellent, and so is the Wahoo fishing. We had excellent Wahoo fishing for our last day of fishing. We did manage to get a few Yellowfin by the sharks. Largest Yellowfin today was caught by Rocky Opliger, and he was also the winner of the Jerry Browns daily jackpot. Most of the Wahoo were in the 25 to 40 pound catogory. We departed the bank at 18:00 hours and now we are headed for home. We will keep you updated on our daily events. The R/p crew.

Just can't take it any more (050409)

Hello everyone;

Weather was just outstanding today, but the fishing was just the opposite. It was very poor, and Roy said you could not take it any more, so we left at 12:00 hours and we are now headed back to Hurricane bank. We have a full day left to fish, so wish us luck. Nothing else to report. The R/p crew.

Making the move (050309)

Hello everyone;

Weather today was breezy, with 18 to 22 knots of wind. We arrived to Clarion island around 08:00 hours, and it did take long to find the bird schools offshore (the Clarion buffer zone). We looked offshore most of the day, with only a few bird schools producing only a few Yellowfin tuna. It was scratch fishing most of the day. We are hoping once the weather comes down, that the fishing will improve. We didn't catch a fish over 100 pounds today, so no jack-pot winner today. So wish us luck and we will keep you posted on our upcoming events. The R/p crew.

Things are getting tough (050209)

Hello everyone;

Things are really tough out here at Hurricane bank. We see lots of fish, but not many bites. The Wahoo are keeping us busy, but the Yellowfin just are showing, and not going. The weather is just beautiful, flat seas, clear skies, and sunny. We still have lots of time left, but the clock is ticking. So wish us luck and we will keep you posted on our daily events. The R/p crew.

Sharks hamper the bank (050109)

Hello everyone;

We had gorgeous weather today, with a slight breeze, clear skies, and sunny. On the other hand, the fishing continues to be hampered by the sharks.

We scratched away today, with the largest fish caught by Tom Blohm (180 pound Yellowfin tuna). Tom was the winner of the Jerry Brown daily jack-pot with his Yellowfin tuna. We saw lots of life on the bank today, but the Yellowfin seem to be feeding on something other than what we have.

It didn't take long to make our bait tonight, so things are starting to look up for us, may-be the fishing will improve tomorrow. With that note, wish us luck. The R/p crew.

P.S. Hi Margie, I wan to wish you a happy birthday. Look on the right side, bottom drawer in the computer desk, and there is your birthday present. Love Wahoo Larry
