Looking Good (021709)

He everyone;

Weather today at Clarion island was slight overcast, with 10 to 15 knots of breeze throughout the day.

We checked in at the camp at 08:30 hours and we were soon on our way to the buffer zone. It was not long before we found black porpoise and our first stop we hooked 5 fish and landed 3 from 150 to 175 pounds. Our action continued throughout the day with 48 Yellowfin tuna from 80 to 307 pounds. The 307 pound Yellowfin tuna was caught by Peter Heimbach and was caught on the kite with a double trouble rig. We also had 4 fish from 225 to 247 pounds. Needless to say we are thrilled with our day and hope to have similar action tomorrow. The R/p crew.

Moving on (021609)

Hi folks;

Weather today is overcast with 5 to 6 knots of breeze. We started early this morning with a 150 pound Yellowfin tuna, caught by Gail Lynch. Unfortunately after daybreak a few fish boiled around, but catching was nonexistent. We made a move up toe bank at 08:30 hours and sat at the northwest end till 11:00 hours. We ended the morning with 5 Yellowfin tuna and 2 Wahoo.

We have left the bank and we are now headed for Clarion island. We are pleased with what we caught at Hurricane bank, but it did seem like things were deteriorating.

Now that we are traveling I can comment about what a tremendous charter host jack Neilsen is for Accurate reels. Jack not only brings 50 Accurate reels with rods for passengers to use, he also awards prizes each day for different fish caught. Tackle boxes, Jackets, jig carriers, T-shirts, and also several new reels during the trip. He must also take on average of 10 pictures of each passenger and makes them available to them at the end of the trip. He is the prefect host and all of our passengers truly enjoy him on this trip.

Wish us luck, the R/p crew.

Hi folks;

Good weather and sunny hear at Hurricane bank. Fishing was scratchy with 22 Yellowfin tuna put aboard, along with 6 Wahoo. Largest Yellowfin tuna was landed by Francois Mangeot at 207 pounds. Francois hooked the fish at 05:30 hours on a dead flyer. We did not see as many big fish as we did yesterday.

We are hoping for a better day tomorrow. The R/p crew.

P.S. There are 3 openings still on the March 15th, 18 day ride down/ride back trip.

Yellowfin show (021409)

Hi folks;

Weather at Hurricane bank continues to be a bit breezy. Fishing however continues to improve or at least it appears to be. We caught 37 Yellowfin tuna and 13 Wahoo today. We spent the whole day on the anchor. Largest fish was a 231 pound Yellowfin tuna, landed by Jeff Shapiro. We had 3 fish over 200 pounds, but unfortunately lost at least 5 other cows due to equipment failure and bad luck. We had 3 categories of fish. Some were 90 to 110 pound, many were 130 to 140 pounds, and then there were the 160's to 185's.

We are hoping for another good day tomorrow. Wish us luck please, the R/p crew.

Happy Valentine Day (021309)

Hi folks;

Weather was sunny with 18 to 22 knots of breeze. Still plenty comfortable on the anchor. Today we caught 16 Yellowfin tuna with the largest caught by Roger Hawtree at 244 pounds. Most fish were from 130 to 185 pounds. We also managed to catch 30 Wahoo throughout the day.

Friday the 13th was a really tough day for one of our favorite pasengers, who lost a 210 pound Yellowfin tuna and another around 250 pounds, within inches of the gaff. At dark he managed to finally score with a 140 pound Yellowfin tuna.

We are hoping that things will continue to improve and if they do we will most likely spend most of our trip here at the bank. We will play it day by day and see what happens. Happy Valentines to all from the crew of the Royal Polaris.

Slow start (021209)

He everyone:

We arrived at Hurricane bank at 08:45 hours. Weather consisted of a breeze from 12 to 20 knots throughout the day. It was quite comfortable on the anchor.

Fishing was slow the entire day. We caught 10 Yellowfin tuna, 2 of which were 85 pounds, and the other six were from 115 to 188 pounds. Largest fish was caught by Chris Stavaridis on the kite, with a squid.

To our disappointment the bank was void of Wahoo today and only one was caught on the bait. We plan on being patient and taking things one day at a time. Please keep you fingers crossed for us and with a little luck things will improve. The R/p crew.

Last day of prep (021109)

Hi folks;

Our weather is quite nice with sunshine and 12 knots of breeze out of the northwest. Water temperature is 75 degrees. This morning we had a short seminar on fish fighting techniques, safety when fishing Wahoo and how to load into a skiff to fight a fish if necessary.

Our group did some last minute preparation while others drank a few beers, watched some movies, and played poker. We will arrive at Hurricane bank at about 08:30 hours, unless the Squid should bite well tonight. Last night we make 3 stops for eleven Squid. The R/p crew.

P.S. Wish us luck
